A4A Continues CARB Partnership to Advance SAF Deployment
October 14, 2026
A4A was out in California for the second meeting of the A4A-CARB working group. This group was established under the A4A–CARB voluntary partnership signed in October 2024 with the goal of identifying barriers to SAF adoption and develop policy and non-policy solutions to accelerate SAF adoption in California.
Kevin Welsh, A4A’s Vice President of Environmental Affairs and Chief Sustainability Officer, and Sean Newsum, A4A’s Managing Director of Environmental Affairs, led the group in a productive conversation on SAF production and incentives that would be most effective in California’s political and economic environment, as well as the infrastructure challenges to delivering SAF in California.

Members of the working group include California government officials, A4A member airlines, SAF producers, fuel suppliers, environmental organizations, academia, labor and business representatives.
The group will continue to meet at least annually, with task groups convening more frequently, as needed.
A4A and our airline members are fully committed to reducing the climate impacts of aviation and achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. This partnership with CARB reflects the importance of working collaboratively with government entities to create meaningful progress in aviation sustainability.
